Current Patch Overview

In 16.10 data, Grandma's Chili OilGrandma's Chili Oil is a T1 Gold augment with about 60.1% win rate and 1.27% pick rate. The current version should not be framed as an old 9-stack build. Plan around up to 10 unique Burn sources that increase Chili Oil damage, healing, and pool size. Current damage is 150 base damage per second plus 50 per Burn source, up to about 650 per second before modifiers.

The old “9 stacks, 520 healing, 640 damage” wording is outdated. The current patch changed base damage, damage per Burn source, base healing, and healing per source, so guides must use the latest data and changelog.

Burn Source Mechanics

The Chili Oil pool becomes stronger based on unique Burn sources you own and successfully trigger. In real fights, do not chase the theoretical cap blindly. The stronger setup is one where multiple burns land consistently in the same engage: ability burns, item burns, attack burns, crowd-control burns, and Red Buff burns can all be part of the route.

MechanicCurrent Rule
Damage150 base per second + 50 per Burn source
Healing30-75 base per second + 25 per Burn source
Pool sizeRadius increases per Burn source, with internal caps

Values often refresh only after you trigger Chili Oil again after buying an item or selecting an augment. To verify a source, check the post-trigger tooltip or the actual damage and healing change.

Burn Item Priority

Choose burn items that match how your champion deals damage instead of forcing every source. Mages with frequent ability hits usually prefer Liandry's Torment, Blackfire Torch, Malignance, and Fated Ashes. Tanks or bruisers that stay in melee range get more value from Sunfire Aegis and Hollow Radiance.

ItemBest Use
Liandry's TormentSustained spell damage and front-line shredding
Blackfire TorchFrequent ability hits and AP scaling
MalignanceUltimate-based engages and mage teamfights
Fated AshesEarly low-cost Burn source
Sunfire AegisMelee tanks staying in range
Hollow RadianceMR tank builds with melee burn

A champion’s innate burn-like damage does not always count as a unique Chili Oil Burn source. For reliable scaling, prioritize burn effects granted by items and augments.

Burn Augments to Pair

The following augments directly or indirectly add Burn routes. Pick based on reliable triggers: frequent casters want Infernal Conduit, attack-based champions want Firebrand, heal/shield kits want Holy Fire, and control-heavy champions can use Tormentor.

Best Champion Fits

Current data highlights Brand, Malzahar, Rumble, Lillia, and Zyra as strong Chili Oil users. They share the same pattern: frequent ability hits, sustained damage uptime, or teamfight zones that keep multiple enemies inside Chili Oil.

ChampionData SignalWhy it works
BrandAbout 56.3% win rateFrequent spell hits and strong teamfight coverage
MalzaharAbout 57.1% win rateReliable damage uptime and suppression windows
RumbleAbout 55.1% win rateMelee uptime and zone control
LilliaAbout 61.5% win rateHigh mobility and repeat triggers
ZyraAbout 54.2% win ratePlants and control amplify zone pressure

Practical Build Advice

The safest plan is to secure one primary trigger, then add two or three high-frequency Burn sources. Mages usually start from Liandry's Torment or Blackfire Torch, then pair Infernal Conduit, Slow Cooker, or Holy Fire. Tanks should lean on Sunfire-style items and reliable melee control. Do not sacrifice core durability, haste, or damage curve just to chase the 10-source cap.

In real games, 5 to 7 reliable sources are already very strong. Chase higher source counts only when items, augments, and the champion kit naturally line up.

FAQ

Is Grandma's Chili Oil still a 9-stack augment?

No. Current data uses a cap of up to 10 Burn sources, so the old 9-stack wording is outdated. Read the augment around the 16.10 damage formula: 150 base damage plus 50 per Burn source, with current healing values.

Which Burn sources should you prioritize?

Mages should prioritize Liandry's Torment, Blackfire Torch, Malignance, Fated Ashes, and Infernal Conduit. Melee tanks should prioritize Sunfire Aegis, Hollow Radiance, Slow Cooker, Tormentor, or Red Buff burns. Reliability matters more than raw count.

Do champion innate burns always count?

Not always. Some champion damage-over-time effects look like burns but may not be recognized as unique Chili Oil Burn sources. For stable scaling, rely first on items, augments, Ignite, or Red Buff burns.
